FAQs

What should I wear?

For your free trial class, a t-shirt and shorts or jogging bottoms will be fine. If you choose to join we can help you in buying your first Gi.

Jiu Jitsu is practiced bare foot, so if you have any conditions or aversions regarding this, let us know and we can accommodate you

How much does it cost?

Our pricing structure is fixed. Adults train for £70 a month and children under the age of 18 for £30 a month. This allows you to attend as many of the classes as you like.

Unlike other martial arts there is no fee for grading or getting your next belt, and no additional programs that cost more money.

Do you have classes for beginners?

We encourage everyone to train together, whether they are complete novices or have some experience. We do however offer an additional class for absolute beginners in addition to regular training. This is designed to allow beginners to practice the basic body movements used in Jiu Jitsu, without feeling they are holding the class up or missing the very basics.

What did a typical class involve?

We begin with a warm up before moving into a technique, where we break a technique down in great detail and practice it safely. We then move into specific training, where we practice what we’ve learned with resistance from your partner. At the end of the class we have a sparring session, where those who wish to may participate in live sparring with full resistance.

Is JJ suitable for children?

Yes! Kids take naturally to any grappling activity, often much more quickly than adults! Kids involved in JJ not only learn to defend themselves if necessary, but also learn important lessons about humility, sportsmanship, self discipline and above all friendship.

Is there private tuition available?

We can offer private tuition however we do encourage that most people benefit from being in the classes with a variety of other students. Private tuition best serves as a way to fine tune details, and shouldn’t replace regular training.
